Biography
Emanuel Salvador has been described by the Strad Magazine as "one of the finest Portuguese
violinists of his generation". He has played as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader
on four continents including extensive tours in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Some of the
noteworthy venues that have hosted his performances include Tokyo Opera City, the Jiangxi
Arts Centre in China, Lutoslawski Concert Studio (Poland), Nezahualcoyotl Hall (Mexico), or
National Auditorium in Madrid among many others.
Throughout his career, Emanuel has been recognized with several prestigious awards and
scholarships. Notable accolades include winning prizes at the Isolde Menges Competition
(RCM), Jovens Musicos and Beckenham Festival competitions. He has also received the
Barbirolli Memorial and Wolfson Foundation Awards, a Gulbenkian Foundation Scholarship
and various Instituto Camões Grants.
Emanuel graduated as the top student of the year from Artave, a specialist music school in
Portugal. Subsequently, he pursued further studies in London, earning a Bachelor of Music
Degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the guidance of Professor John
Glickman. He also obtained a Master´s Degree in Advanced Performance at the Royal College
of Music, studying with Dr. Felix Andrievsky.
Emanuel has had the privilege of studying under the mentorship of renowned professors and
musicians, such as Ulf Hoelscher, Alberto Lysy, Vadim Brodsky, David Takeno and Ilya
Grubert.
Emanuel´s career as a concerto soloist has been marked by captivating performances with
over thirty orchestras worldwide, including Sinfónica de Brasília, Orquesta de la Radio
Mexicana, Krasnoyarsk and Florence Chamber orchestra, Częstochowa Philharmonic and Thessaloniki orchestra.
His festival appearances have added to his rich musical experiences,
with highlights at events such as the Macau International Music Festival, Usedomer
MusikFestival in Germany, Guimarães European Capital of Culture 2012, Ohrid Summer
Festival (Macedonia) and the Eternal Spring Chamber Music Festival in Mexico.
Emanuel is an active and accomplished chamber musician, having participated in
masterclasses with distinguished groups such as the Borodin, Takacs, and Vellinger Quartets,
as well as the Beaux Arts, Florestan, and Peabody Trios. He was a founding member of the
Vianna da Motta Piano Trio and Guimarães String Quartet. He also shared the stage with
eminent artists such Daniel Stabrawa, Konstantin Heidrich, Andriy Viytovych, Vasko Vassilev or
Ronaldo Rolim.
Emanuel has recorded albums on the DUX, Divine Art, Odradek labels as well as a number of
live recordings for both National TV and radio stations in China, Poland, Lithuania, Portugal
or Spain.
Emanuel is artistic director of both Guimarães Clássico Festival and Szczecin Classic
Festival. He served as concertmaster of the Orquestra do Norte in Portugal for a decade, from
2005 to 2015, and later took on the role of concertmaster at the Baltic Neopolis Chamber
Orchestra in Poland.
As a guest concertmaster, he has collaborated with orchestras such as the Spanish National
Orchestra, Seoul Classical Players, Remix Ensemble, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da
Musica, and Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, among others.
Emanuel plays a violin by J. B. Ceruti from 1802.
